Pune: A tragic accident claimed the life of a 49-year-old woman riding a two-wheeler when a speeding tempo rammed into her on Sinhagad Road's Anandnagar area. The incident took place at Bha. Da. Kher Chowk on Wednesday (January 8) morning around 8:30 AM.

The deceased, identified as Poonam Prafulla Wanjale, was a resident of Dattawadi. The driver of the tempo, Balkrishna Rabaji Gund (40), a resident of Wadgaon, has been charged in connection with the accident.

Poonam Wanjale was commuting to Narhe for work when the accident occurred. The tempo, reportedly loaded with fish, was traveling towards Wadgaon.

As Wanjale crossed a junction near Hingne and reached Bha. Da. Kher Chowk, the tempo hit her two-wheeler from behind. The impact caused severe head injuries to Wanjale, and she was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital. However, despite efforts, she succumbed to her injuries during treatment.

The accident is especially heartbreaking as it was revealed that Poonam’s husband had also died in a road accident a few years ago. Poonam is survived by her mother, daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren.

In another accident reported from Undri, Dr. Pranali Tanmay Date (34), a resident of VTP Urban Nest Society in Undri, was killed when a speeding truck hit her two-wheeler.

The incident happened around 12:30 PM when Dr. Date was riding towards Handewadi. A truck, approaching at high speed from behind, hit her vehicle. She fell on the road, and the truck's wheels ran over her head, resulting in her instant death.
