Pune, 28 August 2025: A dramatic robbery at the Royal Enfield showroom in Wakdewadi has been solved with the arrest of a 23-year-old storekeeper who worked at the same showroom. The accused, identified as Pratik Bharat Sawant, allegedly looted ₹7.11 lakh after threatening the security guard with a cutter and tying him up.
The incident occurred in the early hours of August 19. Security guard Raju Khan was forced into the showroom by the accused, who took the keys to the cash counter room. Sawant then unlocked a drawer and fled with the cash before disappearing.
Police immediately suspected an insider’s hand in the theft. A crime branch team from Unit 4 tracked CCTV footage and gathered intelligence from informers. Investigations revealed that the storekeeper himself was behind the robbery.
Sawant was later spotted near a Ganpati temple in Maharshinagar. On questioning, he confessed to the crime. Police also seized a motorcycle worth ₹50,000, purchased using the stolen money.
Investigators said Sawant had been under financial stress and committed the crime to repay debts. To avoid suspicion, he reported to work for two days after the theft before taking leave.
Senior Police Inspector Ajay Waghmare confirmed that the accused has been arrested and further investigation is underway.
