Veteran Actor-Singer Sulakshana Pandit Passes Away at 71 Due to Heart Attack

Sulakshana was on her way to Nanavati hospital when she passed away. "She died from a cardiac arrest at approximately 7 p.m."

Sulakshana Pandit, a seasoned actor and playback singer recognized for her roles in films such as 'Uljhan' and 'Chehre Pe Chehra', passed away on Thursday from a heart attack, as confirmed by her brother Lalit Pandit. She was 71 years old.

Sulakshana was en route to Nanavati hospital when she passed away. "She succumbed to a cardiac arrest at approximately 7 pm. She had reported difficulty in breathing and appeared slightly unwell. We were transporting her to Nanavati hospital, but she passed away before we arrived," Lalit Pandit informed PTI.

Sulakshana made her first appearance in 'Uljhan' in 1975 alongside Sanjeev Kumar and subsequently collaborated with nearly all the leading actors of her time, such as Rajesh Khanna, Shashi Kapoor, and Vinod Khanna.

Her other significant films include "Sankoch", "Hera Pheri", "Khandaan", and "Dharam Khanta". Additionally, she enjoyed a successful career as a playback singer, delivering popular songs such as "Tu hi saagar tu hi kinara", "Pardesiya tere desh mein", "Bekrar dil tut gaya", "Baandhi re kahe preet", and "Somvaar ko hum mile".

Originating from a musical family in Hissar, Haryana, she was the niece of Pandit Jasraj. Sulakshana began singing at nine and launched her music career alongside her brother Mandheer. Her siblings include Jatin Pandit, Lalit Pandit, and former actress Vijayata Pandit.
