Pune: A 76-year-old woman was found burned inside her flat in a housing society in Kothrud. The police suspect suicide, and an investigation is currently underway. The deceased has been identified as Kamal Sampatrao Ghuge (76), a resident of Guru Ganesh Nagar, Kothrud.

On Monday (March 31) at around 8:30 AM, residents of the housing society noticed smoke coming from Ghuge’s flat and immediately informed the fire department. Upon receiving the alert, Fire Station Chief Prakash Gore and his team rushed to the location.

When they opened the first-floor flat’s door, they found Ghuge critically burned. Surprisingly, none of the other household items inside the flat were damaged by the fire. Ghuge was rushed to the hospital, but she was declared dead before treatment could begin.

Following the incident, the Kothrud police reached the scene and began their investigation. According to Senior Inspector Sandeep Deshmane, Ghuge was living alone in a rented flat, while her son and daughter live separately.

Preliminary findings suggest that she may have set herself on fire in an act of suicide, but the police are conducting further inquiries to confirm the cause of death. The investigation is ongoing, and police are gathering more details.
