Pune: Group Legrand India launched its Water Table Recharge Project in Bhor (Pune) and Wada (Palghar) to combat groundwater depletion and improve water availability in these regions. This initiative is set to replenish 50 community borewells, ensuring an annual recharge of 10 crore liters of water, benefiting over 2,500 people, primarily from tribal and farming communities.

The tribal and farming communities in these areas face severe water shortages due to depleting groundwater levels and irregular rainfall patterns. Many villagers walk over 2 kilometers daily to fetch water, impacting their health, agriculture, and daily lives.

To tackle this crisis, Legrand India, in partnership with the Third Planet Foundation and Urdhvam Environmental Technologies Pvt. Ltd., has introduced a patented borewell recharge solution. This innovative technology helps revive low-yielding borewells, speeding up a natural process that would typically take decades, ensuring long-term water sustainability.

The project is already making a significant impact. Omkar Tukaram Malusare, a young farmer, shared his experience, stating, “Earlier, we had only half an hour of water for our farms, but now we have uninterrupted 3-4 hours of water, even in the summer. This has completely changed our lives.”

The initiative was officially inaugurated by Abida Aneez, VP-CSR, Group Legrand India, in the presence of local villagers and Legrand employees. The company reaffirmed its commitment to creating sustainable solutions for communities in need.

Abida Aneez stated: "At Legrand, we believe access to water is a fundamental right. Through this initiative, we are providing a sustainable solution to a growing crisis, leveraging technology and community partnerships to empower local populations. This project is a lifeline for a better future."
