Kolkata: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Suvendu Adhikari, who defeated Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee in her stronghold Bhabhanipur in 2026 and earlier in Nandigram in 2021, is reportedly poised to become the saffron party’s first Chief Minister of West Bengal.

Reports indicate that Adhikari is expected to be selected as the leader of the BJP legislative party during the meeting. BJP state president Samik Bhattacharya will propose Adhikari’s name, and Home Minister Amit Shah will officially announce him as the leader of the legislative party.
The location for the meeting is still undecided. It will not take place at the party’s state headquarters, as the venue is too small to host all 207 winning candidates.
