Pune police have apprehended a Bangladeshi citizen who had been living illegally in the Maharshinagar area of Swargate for the past ten years. The operation, carried out by the Swargate Police team, was based on a tip-off regarding the individual’s illegal stay.
The arrested person, identified as Ehsan Hafiz Sheikh (34), was residing in Maharshinagar, Gultekdi, while originally hailing from Bangladesh. Upon investigation, the police discovered that Ehsan had entered India illegally in 2014 and settled in Pune, where he started a clothing business.
During the arrest, the police seized fake identification documents, including an Aadhaar card, voter ID, and PAN card, which the individual had used to facilitate his stay.
A case has been registered against him under Section 14 of the Foreigners Act. Authorities are currently investigating how he procured these counterfeit documents and whether any local networks assisted him.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of Senior Police Inspector Yuvraj Nandre, with Police Sub-Inspector Ashok Patil leading the investigation. Further inquiries are ongoing to uncover additional details about his illegal activities and connections.
Apart from Pune Police, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police have arrested 33 Bangladeshi nationals residing illegally in various parts of the city under the jurisdiction of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate in the last year.
