Pune: In a bid to strengthen police presence across the city and provide rapid assistance to citizens, the Pune City Police is set to introduce the ‘Cop 24’ initiative. The program, which has already undergone officer training and appointments, will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on February 15.

Round-the-Clock Patrol with GPS-Tracked Vehicles

As part of this initiative, the police department will deploy:

  • 123 two-wheelers and 39 four-wheelers for patrolling.

  • All these vehicles will be fitted with GPS tracking systems to ensure constant monitoring of beat marshals.

  • The Crime Branch will oversee their performance, ensuring no negligence in duty.

  • These officers will be responsible for patrolling the city 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Body Cameras to Ensure Transparency

To enhance police accountability, all beat marshals will wear body cameras on their uniforms.

  • These cameras will record all incidents at the locations where officers are deployed.

  • This measure will prevent false accusations against police personnel while also helping identify misconduct by officers, if any.

Women Beat Marshals for Women’s Safety

A key feature of ‘Cop 24’ is the deployment of women beat marshals to handle complaints related to women's safety.

  • Female officers will be assigned to respond to complaints made via the police helpline.

  • The presence of women police officers will make it easier for female complainants to share their concerns comfortably.

  • This initiative is designed to ensure quick and effective resolution of complaints related to women's safety.
