Pune: A 24-year-old man from Aundh, Pune, has lost his ₹10 lakh Ertiga car after a rental agreement went awry. The car was rented out for a monthly rent of ₹52,000, but the individual who took the car never returned it.

The complainant had posted an advertisement on Telegram to rent out his car. Responding to the ad, Mayur Ratnakar Jadhav, a resident of Jaydeep Apartment in Avhalwadi, agreed to the terms and took the car on September 25. However, after sending ₹25,000 on October 30, Jadhav stopped communicating with the complainant.

When the complainant contacted him to demand ₹1,31,000 for three months of rent, Jadhav claimed he was traveling to Ahmedabad and would arrange payment there.

Despite repeated requests for either the payment or the return of the car, Jadhav’s mobile phone was turned off after November 28. Faced with no resolution, the complainant filed a police report. A case has been registered against Jadhav at Chatuhshrungi police station, and police investigations are ongoing.

Recently in October 2024, four individuals were arrested for allegedly duping a man out of ₹80 lakh by falsely claiming high profits in the buying and selling of used cars.

The accused reportedly brought rental vehicles under the pretense of selling them and used forged RTO smart cards to convince the victim of the authenticity of the transactions. The complaint was filed by Pratik Rajesh Shinde, 29, a resident of Chinchwad, at the Chikhali Police Station.
