Ten Crore Passengers Benefitted from Diwali Special Trains

Last year, 9.23 crore passengers were accommodated. This year, 9.57 crore passengers have benefited.

Pune: The railway administration had planned 7600 special trains during Diwali from various stations in the country, including Pune.

This benefited about 10 crore passengers. 169 special trains ran from Pune. It facilitated more than three lakh passengers.

Special trains were released from October 1. They will run until November 30. Last year, 4,500 special trains were released during diwali celebrations. That's up about 73 percent this year.

The number of passengers also increased. Last year, 9.23 crore passengers were accommodated. This year, 9.57 crore passengers have benefited.

Vineet Abhishek, Chief Public Relations Officer, Western Railway, Mumbai said, "Special trains were released for the convenience of passengers. Most of the trains were diverted to passengers from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal and Odisha. It had the same number of reserved ticket holders as unreserved."
