Pune: The wife of a security guard who was gravely injured in a violent attack in the Theur area on Pune-Solapur road has succumbed to her injuries. The attack, which involved a shooting and stone-pelting, occurred when the security guard confronted a group of men over inappropriate behavior.
The victim, identified as 29-year-old Sheetal Akshay Chavan, was undergoing treatment at a private hospital but passed away on Wednesday (January 1) evening.
Sheetal’s death has led to the addition of more serious charges against the three accused individuals—Bhanudas Shinde, Ajay Mundhe, and Satish alias Nana Mundhe. The police have seized a locally made pistol from the accused.
The altercation began on Friday morning (December 27) near Hotel Jai Malhar in the Theur Phata area, where Akshay Chavan worked as a security guard. The accused had stopped their car in the open space near the hotel and urinated there. When Akshay objected to their behavior, one of the men fired at him using a locally made pistol.
Hearing the commotion, Akshay's wife, Sheetal, rushed to the spot but was attacked by the accused, who pelted stones at her. A stone struck Sheetal on the head, leaving her critically injured.
The police arrested the three accused shortly after the incident and recovered the weapon used in the attack. Additional charges have been filed against them following Sheetal’s death. Her body was sent to Sassoon Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
