Pune: A watchman narrowly escaped being injured in a shooting incident near Theur on the Pune-Solapur Highway on Friday (December 27) morning. The attack followed a confrontation with individuals who were urinating in an open space near the premises he was guarding. The attackers also threw stones, injuring the watchman’s wife during the altercation.

The suspects, identified as Bhanudas Shelar, Ajay Munde, and Satish alias Nana Munde, were arrested by the Loni Kalbhor Police. A country-made pistol, carried illegally by the accused, was seized during the investigation.

The incident occurred around 8:15 a.m. near Jai Malhar Hotel, where Akshay Chavan works as a watchman and resides with his wife, Sheetal. The accused arrived in a car and began urinating in an open area. Chavan confronted them, leading to a heated exchange. The assailants verbally abused him and escalated the situation by physically assaulting him and throwing stones.

When Sheetal Chavan intervened to stop the altercation, she was struck by a stone, sustaining injuries to her head and leg. The situation turned more dangerous when one of the suspects fired a shot at Akshay Chavan with a country-made pistol. Fortunately, Chavan was unharmed.

Chavan immediately informed the Loni Kalbhor Police Station about the incident. Senior Police Inspector Rajendra Karankot led the response team to the scene and successfully apprehended the suspects. The police confirmed that the seized pistol was being carried illegally. Further investigations are ongoing.
