Pune: A sweet shop in Yerawada, Pune, fell victim to burglars who broke into the store late Thursday (September 26) night, making off with cash and two and a half kilograms of mango burfi.

The incident was reported by Saitansingh Sawaisingh Devda, the shop owner, who filed a complaint at the Yerawada police station. Devda, a resident of Ekta Housing Society on Golf Club Road, runs Narayan Sweet Mart, a popular sweet shop on the same road.

According to the police, the burglars targeted the shop around midnight, breaking the lock on the door to gain entry. Once inside, they pried open the cash drawer and stole ₹8,700 along with the mango burfi, a popular sweet delicacy.

The theft was discovered the following morning when Devda arrived to open his shop and noticed the broken lock and missing items.

Senior Police Inspector Ravindrakumar Shelke visited the crime scene, and Police Naik Madane has been assigned to investigate. The police suspect that the burglars specifically targeted the shop due to the lack of security measures, such as guards and CCTV cameras.

This incident is part of a worrying trend of rising burglaries in the city, where thieves often scout homes and shops without proper security.

Police have advised business owners and residents to take additional precautions, including installing surveillance systems and securing their premises more effectively to deter such crimes.
