Pune: Vishrambaug police have registered FIR against 19-year-old Shivputra Kamlakar Bel from Kalepadal, the teen driver who was driving a car without a valid driving license. His car had crashed on Tilak road causing damage to an electronic goods showroom located near Sahitya Parishad Chowk in the early hours of Sunday (January 12).
This high-speed car accident had drawn comparisons to the infamous Porsche car accident that previously brought the city’s nightlife into the national spotlight. Fortunately, the accident occurred at a time when the road was devoid of vehicles and pedestrians, averting a potentially catastrophic situation.
At approximately 3 AM on Sunday, a speeding car lost control on Tilak Road and collided with the roadside Maharashtra Electronics showroom, causing damages estimated to be between ₹20 and ₹22 lakh. The incident occurred close to a venue where thousands had gathered for a marathon event, raising concerns about the potential severity had the accident occurred later in the day.
Showroom owner, Manmindersingh Harbanssingh Chhavara (47), a resident of Salisbury Park, lodged a formal complaint at Vishrambaug Police Station. The accused, Shivputra Kamlakar Bel (19), a resident of Satyaraj Angan, Kalepadal, was driving the car. He was accompanied by three friends at the time of the incident.
Investigations revealed that Shivputra did not hold a valid driving license, and a case has been registered against him. Police have initiated a probe into the accident and are assessing further liabilities, including the involvement of Shivputra’s friends.
