Pune, 18 July 2025: In a move to improve traffic flow and reduce the risk of accidents caused by heavy construction vehicles, Pune Traffic Police has introduced new temporary restrictions within the city. The order applies specifically to vehicles such as dumpers, Hyva trucks, and RMC mixers used in the construction sector and excludes slow-moving vehicles like JCBs, road rollers, tractors, and general goods carriers.

The directive, issued under the powers granted by the Maharashtra Motor Vehicles Rules and the Motor Vehicles Act, has been implemented by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Himmat Jadhav. The initiative is aimed at minimizing inconvenience to citizens and preventing traffic bottlenecks caused by heavy-duty vehicles entering city limits during peak hours.

As per the new rule, construction-related heavy vehicles will not be allowed to enter the city’s Red Zone areas between 4 PM and 10 PM on Saturday, July 19 and Saturday, July 26, 2025. However, they will be permitted to operate without restriction, including in the Red Zone, on Sunday, July 20 and Sunday, July 27, 2025

The Red Zone refers to key central roads and junctions within Pune where traffic congestion is most frequent. Entry into these areas from prominent junctions like Vimannagar Chowk, Shastrinagar Chowk, Koregaon Park Junction, Patil Estate, Bremen Chowk, Aundh Parihar Chowk, Rajaram Bridge, Swargate, and others will be completely restricted for the designated heavy vehicles during the specified time slots.

These measures are being implemented on an experimental basis to assess their impact on city traffic and public convenience. The authorities have urged construction companies and vehicle operators to plan their movement accordingly and avoid Red Zone routes during restricted hours to prevent penalties or vehicle seizures.

By controlling the entry of heavy construction vehicles during peak periods, Pune Traffic Police aims to ensure a safer and more organized urban commute for its residents.
