Pune: A tragic accident occurred in Kande Nagar, Undri, on Wednesday (January 8) when a speeding truck hit a two-wheeler, instantly killing the woman rider. The victim, Dr. Pranali Tanmay Date (34), was a resident of VTP Urban Nest Society in Undri.
The incident happened around 12:30 PM when Dr. Date was riding towards Handewadi. A truck, approaching at high speed from behind, hit her vehicle. She fell on the road, and the truck's wheels ran over her head, resulting in her instant death.
The severity of the accident was such that her brain was scattered across the road. Witnesses reported the horrifying sight, which left locals in shock.
The truck driver, identified as Pandurang Balbhim Bhosale (35), fled the scene immediately but was later arrested with the help of CCTV footage, according to Police Sub-Inspector Anil Nimbalkar of Kale Padal Police Station.
Locals Raise Safety Concerns
The area has been witnessing an increasing influx of heavy vehicles and dumpers, making it prone to accidents. Residents expressed frustration over the lack of traffic control measures and described the locality as a "death trap."
Speaking on the frequent accidents in the area, local businessmen Anil Kande and Navnath Chavan said, "Minor accidents happen almost daily. We’ve made it a point to keep first-aid supplies on hand to assist victims immediately."
The accident has once again raised concerns over the need for stricter regulations and traffic management in areas with heavy vehicle movement.
