Pune: A BJP worker was attacked in Kothrud area, triggering political uproar and raising concerns over law and order in the city. Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Murlidhar Mohol, criticized the Pune Police, demanding stricter action against criminals. He also stated that he had discussed the matter with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, urging the police to take a firm stance.

Speaking to reporters at Pune Airport while welcoming Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Mohol lashed out at the police, citing increasing crime incidents in the city. "If citizens, workers, and even police personnel are being attacked, this is a serious concern. The Pune Police Commissioner must take immediate steps to curb such incidents. We will not tolerate such criminal activities in our city," Mohol stated.

BJP MLA Chandrakant Patil also expressed concern over the incident and visited the injured party worker Devendra Purushottam Jog at his residence. He called for strict measures to prevent further attacks on political workers.

The incident occurred on Wednesday evening (February 19) in Kothrud, when BJP worker Devendra Jog was attacked by three men over an altercation regarding maneuvering his two-wheeler through a crowded street. The police have registered a case against Om Tirtharam Dharmajidnyasu (35), Kiran Kondiba Padwal (31), and Amol Vinayak Tapkir (35).

According to police reports, a Shiv Jayanti procession was taking place in the Bhelkenagar area on Wednesday afternoon. Jog had stepped out for shopping when he got caught in the crowd. An argument broke out while trying to move his vehicle, which escalated into a physical assault by the accused. Following the attack, Pune Police swiftly arrested the three accused and presented them in court. The court has remanded them to three days of police custody.

Following the incident, BJP leaders have urged the police administration to take stronger action against the attackers. They have also emphasized the need for more stringent measures to control criminal activities in Pune.
