Pune: In a shocking incident in Thoptewadi, near Nira in Purandar Taluka, a family belonging to the Pardhi community was attacked by a mob of approximately 15 individuals on October 26. Two members of the family are critically injured, while five others, including a four-year-old boy, suffered minor injuries. Allegations of misconduct against two unmarried girls in the family have further intensified the gravity of the situation.

The attack occurred over a minor dispute and escalated into a violent assault near the hill on the village’s outskirts. Harishchandra Bhosale, the family patriarch, sustained severe injuries and remains bedridden, while his wife Tarabai suffered head trauma requiring stitches. The couple’s sons, Amol and Karan, and their four-year-old grandson Abhay also sustained injuries. Reports indicate that two young women in the family were assaulted and faced severe misconduct.

The victims allege negligence and threats from the local police. Despite reporting the attack to the Nira outpost on the same night, no action was taken. The police have also reportedly warned the family of false charges against them. Meanwhile, a complaint by the attackers was registered promptly.

Background and Community Response

The incident has drawn widespread criticism from tribal leaders and human rights activists. Baburao Kale, President of the Tribal Council, and advocate Anand Kale visited the victims and demanded justice.

The family’s ordeal extended to inadequate medical attention. Harishchandra was denied saline treatment at the Nira Health Center, and Tarabai was advised to seek treatment at Satara Civil Hospital.

Jejuri Assistant Police Inspector Deepak Wakchaure commented that both parties were involved in the altercation, with injuries reported on both sides. He stated that the Pardhi family was summoned to file their complaint, but a case against them has already been lodged by the opposing party.
