Pune: Continuous torrential rains has triggered multiple landslides in Lavasa region, causing significant damage. Reports indicate that several bungalows have collapsed, and the Lavasa to Varasgaon road has developed cracks.

The onset of heavy rains in various parts of the state has severely disrupted daily life. Pune is currently experiencing intense rainfall, prompting authorities to issue a red alert for the affected areas.

Authorities said that some people are missing as a result of the heavy rainfall and landslides. Rescue operations are underway to locate the missing individuals and provide assistance to those affected by the damage.

Relentless rains have created a severe situation, causing the Indrayani River also to overflow and flood-like conditions to arise in Karla region of Maval Taluka.

The Shivdurg Rescue Team, working alongside the Maval Taluka administration and local citizens, had successfully rescued 29 tourists stranded due to the downpour on Wednesday (July 24).

22 tourists were trapped in a bungalow behind Balgram in Bhaje, and seven were stranded in Karla. Heavy rainfall has caused significant disruption in Maval Taluka.

Meanwhile, in Pune city, overnight heavy rains has flooded five societies from the low-lying areas on Sinhagad Road.

The affected societies include Ekta Nagari, Dwarka, Jalpujan, Sharda Sarovar, and Shyam Sundar. It is reported that 200 citizens were stuck due to sudden flooding of these societies.

PMC administration failed to inform the citizens staying in these areas about the increased discharge of water from Khadakwasla dam leading to flooding of low-lying areas and riverbed areas.

CM Eknath Shinde, reviewing the rescue efforts, has instructed district administration to airlift residents if required.
