Pune: The Khed Special Economic Zone (SEZ) and Chakan Industrial Estate are witnessing an alarming rise in criminal activities, with local gangs allegedly engaging in violent conflicts over business contracts. In a recent high-profile incident, two rival groups clashed at the entrance of Hyundai Company, resulting in injuries and multiple arrests.
The violent altercation, which occurred in broad daylight, was captured on video and widely circulated on social media, raising serious concerns among business owners, workers, and residents. The incident is the latest in a series of clashes related to contract disputes in industrial areas.
Concerns Over Increasing Crime in Khed SEZ and Chakan Industrial Estate
Despite being a hub for multinational and national corporations, Khed SEZ is becoming a hotspot for organized criminal activities. Local gangs are reportedly using intimidation and violence to secure contracts, creating an atmosphere of fear among company management and employees.
Several industrialists and organizations have called for strict action against these gangs, citing concerns that some criminal groups have political backing, allowing them to operate with impunity.
Details of the Incident
The violent clash took place at Hyundai Company’s entrance in Khed SEZ.
Two local groups fought over a contract, using sticks, iron rods, and even security barriers as weapons.
Several individuals sustained injuries, and a case has been registered at Rajgurunagar police station.
Four individuals were arrested, and preventive action has been taken against others involved.
Rajgurunagar Police Inspector Prabhakar More confirmed that the incident occurred in February. He stated, "The fight broke out between two groups over securing a contract at Hyundai Company. Cases have been registered against individuals from both sides, and four arrests have been made. Preventive action has also been taken against the involved youths."
