Pune: A bus stop constructed by the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) near a public toilet on the Kasturba Society-Tingrenagar road in Vishrantwadi has drawn criticism from residents.

The bus stop, which has not seen a single bus halt since its installation, is being called a wasteful use of public funds.

Residents have pointed out that the location of the bus stop, adjacent to a men’s public toilet, is not suitable, especially for women passengers.

Meanwhile, citizens' long-standing demands for bus stops near Jai Ganesh Vishwam Mall and opposite Saraswat Bank near Sathe Biscuits remain unaddressed.

Sachin Bhosale, a local resident, said, “We had requested bus stops in more relevant locations, but the administration ignored our appeals, citing a lack of funds. Instead, they constructed a stop where it is not needed, next to a public toilet.”

Chief Engineer of PMPML, Dattatray Tulpule, acknowledged the issue, stating, “The bus stop was constructed slightly inward due to ongoing flyover construction in the area. However, as it remains unused, it will soon be relocated to a more suitable spot.”

Residents have expressed their disappointment with the administration’s priorities and called for a review of the decision-making process to better address public transportation needs.

Meanwhile, PMPML commuters can check live bus locations and estimated arrival times at stops through the "Aapli PMPML" mobile app. The app was launched on August 15 to provide real-time tracking for buses. By December, passengers can track nearly entire PMPML fleet through the app.
