Pune: The weather department has forecasted light showers in Pune and its surrounding areas on Friday (19th) with heavy rainfall expected in isolated places on the Ghats. So far this monsoon, the Shivajinagar weather station has recorded 362.2 millimeters of rainfall.

Throughout the day, the city experienced cloudy weather with occasional light showers. Despite this, the city is still awaiting a significant downpour. From June 1 to July 18, Shivajinagar has received 362.2 millimeters of rainfall, compared to the usual average of 256.3 millimeters for this period.

This year, Pune has received 105.9 millimeters more rainfall than the average, including the heavy pre-monsoon rains in the first week of July. The weather department has noted that this year's monsoon has resulted in above-average rainfall.

Over the next two days, the sky is expected to remain mostly cloudy, with a warning of heavy showers in isolated places on the Ghats. The weather department has advised citizens planning to visit the Ghats on Saturday and Sunday to take precautions.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued an 'Orange Alert' for Pune district last week. Although the Ghats in the Pune district have received good rainfall, there has been less rain for rice cultivation compared to previous years. The weather department has also forecasted what the rainfall will be like in the Pune district for the next five days.

Red Alert for Konkan, Ghats, and East Vidarbha

Due to a new low-pressure area forming in the Bay of Bengal, the intensity of rain in the state is expected to increase. A heavy rainfall warning has been issued for Konkan, the Ghats, and Vidarbha on Friday.

The weather department has issued a red alert for heavy rainfall in the districts of Ratnagiri, Satara, Chandrapur, Bhandara, Gondia, and Gadchiroli.
