Young Woman Forced into Abortion After False Promise of Marriage

Pune: A 33-year-old woman from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar was allegedly deceived, coerced into a relationship, and later forced to undergo an abortion after being promised marriage.

The accused, identified as Shafik Jabir Sheikh, aged 33 and a resident of Mogal Masjid, Mumbai, has been charged with fraud and intimidation. The events reportedly took place between December 25, 2021, and June 24, 2024, at Hotel Sunshine in Koregaon Park.

The complainant and the accused were known to each other, with Sheikh allegedly winning her trust by promising marriage. He initiated a physical relationship with the victim, which resulted in her becoming pregnant.

Upon learning of her pregnancy, Sheikh allegedly pressured her to terminate it. When she initially refused, the accused resorted to verbal abuse and issued threats against her and her relatives, forcing her to comply.

The complainant, fearing for her and her family's safety, eventually took the abortion pills provided by Sheikh. Despite her repeated inquiries about marriage, the accused continually avoided the topic and ultimately refused to marry her, prompting the victim to approach the police.
