Here’s why Amazon quietly changed its logo; Twitter reacts

Akshay Badwe

E-commerce giant Amazon on Tuesday silently changed the design of its new app logo, replacing the blue ribbon on top that drew some poor comparisons. Those using Amazon Shopping app can now see a brown box that look like a parcel with a blue strip that looks like wrapping tape above the company's signature arrow in the shape of a smile.

Amazon launched the initial new icon in a handful of international markets in late January but has now tweaked the design of the blue tape after some said it look like a toothbrush-style mustache, similar to the one wore by Adolf Hitler. Only iOS users in some European nations saw the Hitler-esque logo over the past few weeks.

Few days back, Amazon had replaced its app logo from a shopping cart with Amazon printed on it to a brown box, approaching its packaging. Now in a recent development, in the tweaked app logo, the blue strip has been changed to look like someone is tearing the tape.

Spokesperson of Amazon stated that the company is always finding new ways to keep customers happy. "We designed the new icon to spark anticipation, excitement, and joy when customers start their shopping journey on their phone, just as they do when they see our boxes on their doorstep," The Verge reported.

Recently, we've seen plenty of logo blunders over the year but few that have ended in a police complaint. Also, Indian fashion website Myntra, so called ‘offensive’ logo was replaced recently with a subtly tweaked design.
