According to a report by the Wall Street Journal, U.S. President Donald Trump might be re-evaluating certain aspects of his administration's immigration enforcement approach after private talks with Melania Trump and senior advisors.

The report indicates that Trump has become cautious about the political consequences of the forceful measures taken by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

The phrase 'mass deportation,' which was once a key part of the administration's communication strategy, is now viewed by some insiders as unfavorable among voters as important midterm elections approach.

The change in tone is reportedly a result of discussions with Melania Trump and high-ranking officials, such as White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, who allegedly expressed worries about the impact of recent events on public opinion.

Disputes increase tension

The reconsideration reportedly arises as ICE operations face increased examination, particularly following deadly incidents earlier this year. In Minneapolis, civilian deaths during enforcement activities led to protests and ongoing investigations. Authorities continue to investigate several incidents involving federal agents.

These incidents have heightened the discussion on immigration enforcement and have added to what some advisors reportedly consider a politically delicate matter.

Potential change in enforcement strategy

The Journal's report suggests that Trump might favor concentrating on targeting 'bad guys' over conducting large, high-profile raids. Additionally, the administration might reduce operations in major cities that lean Democratic, like Minneapolis, Chicago, and Washington, DC.

The report also states that daily arrests by immigration officials have decreased from over 1,500 to approximately 1,200, according to individuals knowledgeable about enforcement patterns.

The White House responds with resistance

In response to the reports, the White House has refuted any alterations in policy. Spokeswoman Abigail Jackson stated, 'There is no modification to the Administration’s immigration enforcement strategy.'

She mentioned that Trump's top priority has consistently been the removal of illegal alien criminals who pose a threat to American communities, while emphasizing statistics on deportations and border security.

These developments occur as Senator Markwayne Mullin, nominated by Trump to head the Department of Homeland Security, vowed to enhance the agency's public image.“Mullin stated during a Senate hearing that his objective for the next six months is to avoid being the top news story every day.

Although no official change has been declared, reports indicate that internal discussions are underway as the administration considers enforcement priorities in relation to political factors.
