Iran on Friday rejected US President Donald Trump’s claim that its leadership had approved a preliminary peace agreement, saying negotiations remain under review and no final decision has been made. Baqaei’s remarks came after Trump suggested that a deal could be signed in Europe within days. “So far, Iran has not reached a final conclusion on the agreement,” he said.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmael Baghaei dismissed reports of an imminent settlement as speculative and said Iranian authorities were still examining the proposed terms. His remarks came a day after Trump suggested a deal to ease tensions between Washington and Tehran could be signed within days and indicated that Iran’s leadership had endorsed the framework.

Baghaei said substantial parts of the text had been prepared but stressed that unresolved issues remained and that every detail still required formal review. He also accused the United States of sending mixed signals during negotiations and said Iran would not compromise on what it described as its “red lines”.

Key issues in the talks continue to include sanctions relief, the release of frozen Iranian assets, and the future of Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile. Tehran has repeatedly maintained that its nuclear programme is peaceful and has opposed calls to hand over its uranium reserves.

The exchange comes amid renewed diplomatic efforts following the recent cessation of hostilities between the two countries, though both sides continue to signal differences over the final terms of any agreement.
