Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, passes away at 99

Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, passed away at 99, according to an official statement by Buckingham Palace.

"It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen has announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh," it read.

According to a report published by the BBC, Queen Elizabeth II's husband, Prince Philip recently underwent surgery for a pre-existing heart condition at a London hospital, St Bartholomew's. However, in March, the Duke of Edinburgh was discharged from the hospital after a month-long stay for treatment.

The news comes in a month after Harry and Meghan Markle's interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Prince Philip and the Queen have four children, eight grandchildren as well as 10 great-grandchildren.

More details are awaited about the same from the concerned authorities at the Buckingham Palace.
