Panic broke out at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington on Saturday night after a shooting incident prompted a swift security response and the evacuation of President Donald Trump along with other top officials.
Reports of gunfire sent guests ducking for cover as Secret Service personnel and security forces rushed into the venue. Trump was later confirmed to be safe, and no immediate casualties were reported.
The banquet hall, which was hosting hundreds of journalists, celebrities, and political leaders, was evacuated as security teams secured the area. Attendees were escorted out but not allowed to re-enter, while National Guard personnel were deployed inside the venue.
According to officials, the suspect has been arrested and will face charges related to firearm use during a violent crime and assault on a federal officer. Authorities said the individual was stopped at a security checkpoint before causing further harm.
Following the incident, Trump praised law enforcement for their swift response and said the shooter had been apprehended. He also suggested the event could continue under security guidance.
