Pune: A minor argument among inmates at Yerawada Central Jail escalated into violence, leaving one inmate injured. The Yerawada Police have filed a case against two prisoners, Vicky alias Vivek Rajesh Kharade and Ali Adam Shaikh, for physically assaulting their fellow inmate, Sudhir Gautam Thorat.

The incident occurred on December 14 around 3:30 p.m. in the barracks of Yerawada Jail. According to prison officials, Kharade and Shaikh approached Thorat and asked him, “When will you be released from jail?” The seemingly trivial question led to a heated argument between the three.

The altercation soon turned violent as Kharade and Shaikh began attacking Thorat with punches and kicks. Thorat suffered injuries to his ribs and nose.

Prison guards were alerted to the commotion and immediately intervened to stop the fight. Thorat was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he received first aid for his injuries.

Investigation Underway

Following the incident, Inspector Ravindra Shelke, Crime Branch Inspector Pallavi Meher, and Swati Khedkar visited the jail to assess the situation. The Yerawada Police have registered a case against the accused, and Assistant Police Inspector Vishal Takle is currently investigating the matter.

This is not the first instance of such violence within Yerawada Jail. Fights and misconduct among inmates have occurred in the past, prompting the installation of CCTV cameras to monitor and control such incidents.
