13th edition of Bhimthadi Jatra to be held from Dec 22-26

PUNE: The 13th edition of Bhimthadi Jatra, a rural carnival organised to bring the rural and urban communities together, will be held from December 22 to December 26 at Agriculture College Ground in Sinchan Nagar.

This year's Jatra will include two workshops - composting and saree draping along with nearly 200 stalls displaying products made by villagers of Maharashtra.

Sunanda Pawar, Founder of Bhimthadi Jatra, announced the launch of an online shopping website for Punekars, www.bhimthadibazar.com

Speaking about the workshops, Saee Pawar Negi, Head of the Bhimthadi Select, said that the saree draping workshop has been organised with an aim to help everyone understand the ease and different ways of draping the saree.

SHOPPING PORTAL
Speaking to Sakal Times, Pawar said that the online shopping website currently has 27 self-help groups (SHG) registered with a few more on the waiting list.

“We started the website due to increased demand last year. The website went live eight days ago and we have taken all the necessary precautions regarding the sale and delivery of the items. Slowly, we will be adding those SHGs on the waiting list,” added Pawar.

“We are trying to bring them directly in touch with the urban crowd where they can have possibilities of selling their products by e-commerce,” she said.

RS 5,000 OR LESS
Talking about the cost of products, especially handlooms, Negi remarked, “We have a criterion of allowing only those selling products at Rs 5000 or less. However, the quality and time taken to make the handlooms often increases the range of prices.”

The carnival will have a special section- Bhimthadi Select, of 38 stalls showcasing handloom and handicraft products by artisans, craftsmen and designers from Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and other states. It will also include the Srujan Music Festival with performances by Bollywood singer Kavita Seth, Abhanga Repost and others.

TWO SPECIAL WORKSHOPS
- Saree draping workshop: "It will be led by Nikaytaa of The Indian Draping Co for three days and will teach not only women but also men and children how to drape a sari into a skirt, dhoti etc," said Negi.
- Compost workshop: It will be conducted by Daily Dump Compost, Bengaluru and will address the impact of landfills and recycling waste.
