16,000 youths appear for recruitment tests for 111 posts in Territorial Army

Pune: A whopping 16,000 youths appeared for recruitment of 111 posts in the Territorial Army (TA) on Monday and Tuesday. 

101 Infantry Battalion (TA) Maratha Light Infantry organised the recruitment rally at General Parade Ground near Race Course. The recruitment rally is being held for filling up vacancies in various categories i.e. 104 posts of soldiers (general duty), two soldier clerk (staff duties), two soldiers (hairdresser), and one soldier (washerman), one soldier (tailor) and one soldier (chef community).

“The recruitment is being carried out in three phases. In the first phase, 1.6 km run in the age-wise category, physical tests and qualification checks were carried out on Monday and Tuesday. On Tuesday, 11,000 candidates turned up from Maharashtra, Gujarat, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu and Lakshadweep, and 5,000 candidates came for the tests from Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Telangana, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan and Goa on Tuesday,” a statement from Southern Command read.

It added, “The candidates qualifying in physical tests will undergo medical inspection in Phase II from January 9 to 12 at unit location of 101 Infantry Battalion (TA) Maratha Light. After clearing Phase II, the candidates will undergo Phase III, which will be a written examination on April 7, 2019, conducted by Territorial Army Group Headquarters, Pune.” 
 
What is Territorial Army?
The Territorial Army is part of Regular Army and its present role is to relieve the Regular Army from static duties and assist civil administration in dealing with natural calamities and maintenance of essential services in situations where life of the communities is affected or the security of the country is threatened and to provide units for Regular Army as and when required. The Territorial Army is active in numerous fields.

Units of TA
Infantry Battalions including Home & Hearth Battalions, Ecological Task Forces, Railway Engineer units, Oil Sector units, Engineer units for Line of Control Fencing are different units of the Territorial Army.
 
One Composite Ecological Task Force (National Mission for Clean Ganga) is also under being raised at Allahabad.
