Pune: As the festival season is approaching, the rising demand for khoya has led to the smuggling of adulterated khoya in the city. In a raid conducted by the crime branch of Pune police on Monday, the police have seized 3500 kg of adulterated khoya from a private bus at Padmawati bus stand in Sahakar Nagar.

Four persons have been arrested by the police from the spot, including an accused identified as Bhavesh Patel and three bus drivers. The adulterated khoya was smuggled into the city from Gujarat. According to the police, the raid was conducted on the basis of a tip-off provided to them.

The police were informed by an informer that a private bus has come from Gujarat with 3,500 kg of adulterated khoya worth Rs 8 lakh to sell it in Pune. The police laid a trap with the assistance of food department officials and seized the adulterated khoya from the bus. The police have registered a case under relevant sections of IPC against the arrested accused.
