BAIF to host one-day workshop tomorrow

PUNE: BAIF Development Research Foundation has organised a one-day workshop on ‘Indigenous Cattle Breeds Conservation’ on December 4, 2019, at BAIF, Warje.

The workshop aims at developing a suitable strategy for conservation and utilisation of indigenous cattle breeds such as Gir, Khillari, Dangi, Gaolao, Deoni, Red Kandhar. There will be discussions on strategies and pre-requisites for conservation, application of genomic technology in conservation and breeding aspects, evolving a breed-specific action plan and identifying the way forward.

The workshop will be attended by genome technology scientists from University of New England, Australia and The National Institute of Agricultural Research (INRA), France, dairy breeders, indigenous cow clubs and dairy farms, representatives from Maharashtra Livestock Development Board, Akola, Animal Husbandry Commissionerate, Maharashtra, Nimbkar Agricultural Research Institute, Phaltan, and other Government and Non-Government Organisations from Maharashtra.
