Bal Puraskar 2021: Meet Pune's young prodigy Sonit Sisolekar

Pune: Meet 14-year-old Sonit Sisolekar, one of the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar awardees from Pune. The awards were declared on Monday.

Sonit who studies in Paradise English Medium School has interest in subject of geology. One of India's young volcanologist has interest in studying and understanding volcanoes. Two years back, the young lad bagged NASA’s ‘Cubes in Space’ tournament for his project to understand the method of ionisation of radiation that gave red colour to Mars.

He also won gold and bronze medal at Indian National Science and Engineer Fair for studying the effect of sound relating to the growth of trees. Sonit loves to explore hills around Pune region situated on the Deccan Plateau.

Sonit's father Dr Santosh Sisolekar said, "Sonit currently is researching on Terrestrial Tube on Deccan Plateau. He has submitted a research paper in which he has compared Terrestrial tube volcano on Earth and the Moon. He will particpate in Lunar Planetary Science Conference which is scheduled to be conducted in March."
