Pune: A 28-year-old man threatened a traffic constable of dire consequences after he was stopped for violating traffic rules on Sunday (October 25) evening 5 pm on the road towards Bhosari below the JRD Tata flyover. The biker has been arrested by Bhosari police.

The suspect has been identified as Ganesh Sambhaji Chavan (28), a resident of Vitthalnagar, Nehrunagar in Pimpri. He has been charged under sections 353 (Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 332 (voluntarily hurting a public servant), 504 (intentional insult), 506 (criminal intimidation), 279 (rash driving) of the Indian Penal Code and sections 119/177 of the Motor Vehicle Act. Police Constable Vishnu Tukaram Nagare (42) posted at the Bhosari traffic division of Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate has filed the FIR against Chavan.

According to the complaint, constable Nagare was doing his duty on Sunday evening when he spotted Chavan coming from Kasarwadi in the wrong direction on the road heading towards Bhosari. Nagare stopped Chavan and asked him for his details and the reason for rash driving.

Chavan charged towards Nagare and started manhandling him. Chavan claimed that he was the ‘don’ in the area and no policeman could stop him. He also threatened Nagare that if he files a complaint then he should be ready for dire consequences after Chavan comes out of jail.

Constable Nagare then filed a FIR against Chavan and arrested him on Sunday night. Assistant Police Inspector ND Waghmare is investigating the case.
