Pune, 1st July 2025: A bomb threat received by a private airline at Pune International Airport in Lohgaon turned out to be a hoax, police confirmed on Tuesday. The threat, sent via email, led to an extensive security sweep by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), and local police, who found nothing suspicious on the premises.
The threatening email, discovered by a Star Air customer care executive at around 6:45 am on Sunday, had been sent earlier at 1:25 am. The message warned of powerful explosives hidden in backpacks around the airport and planes, urging urgent evacuation and claiming responsibility under the names “Roadkill” and “Kyo.”
Following the alert, security forces thoroughly inspected the airport and surrounding areas. The Bomb Threat Assessment Committee held a review and concluded that the threat was "non-specific."
Sub-Inspector Manoj Barure of Vimantal Police Station stated, “The email was fake and is suspected to have been sent through the dark web. We are working to trace its origin.”
A case has been registered under sections 125 (endangering human life or safety), 351(4) (criminal intimidation), and 353(1)(B) (statements causing public mischief) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against the unknown sender. Investigations are ongoing by the police’s cyber team.
