Pune, 10 November 2025: Sunny Phulmalik from Lohgaon scripted history by winning a gold medal for India in the 60-kg category at the Asian Youth Games held recently in Bahrain. His victory has brought pride to his hometown and the state.
On Monday, Maharashtra Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil visited Sunny’s residence in Lohgaon to congratulate him. The minister appreciated Sunny’s hard work and determination and announced that he would take responsibility for supporting him. He said Sunny should now focus on training and aim to win an Olympic gold for India in the future.
Patil also pledged help for building a house for Sunny through public contribution, arranging a training facility, and supporting his education. He further announced a monthly financial assistance of ₹50,000 from his own salary.
Sunny comes from a modest family. His father earns a living by travelling with a decorated bull and telling fortunes. Despite financial challenges, Sunny pursued wrestling with dedication and now stands as an inspiration to his village and the state. His victory has sparked celebration among local residents and sports lovers.
