Pune: According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), maximum temperature may touch 41 degrees Celsius on May 20 in the city. The Met department has also forecast that the heat wave situation may continue with increased day temperature across parts of central Maharashtra, including Pune district, Marathwada and Vidarbha till May 20.
In case of Vidarbha, it might continue till May 23. Pune on Sunday reported 40 degrees Celsius maximum temperature, which was 3.3 degrees more than normal. Pune reported minimum temperature of 21 degrees Celsius.
The highest temperature in the State was reported in Chandrapur at 45.6 degree Celsius. The lowest night temperature in the State was reported in Pune at 21 degree Celsius. Speaking about no respite from the heat, Anupam Kashyapi, Head of Weather from IMD Pune, said that the hot days will continue as of now.
“In Vidarbha, there is already existing heat wave, which will continue at isolated areas from till May 23. In Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada, till May 20, the heatwave conditions will continue. For Pune specially, from May 20 onwards till May 22, there is heat wave prediction at isolated pockets. As there is very less moisture incursion, there is no rainfall as of now,” said Kashyapi.
Monsoon Update
As per IMD, in view of the strengthening and deepening of cross equatorial flow and enhanced cloudiness and rainfall in association with a cyclonic circulation at mid-tropospheric levels over Andaman Sea, southwest Monsoon has advanced into South Andaman Sea, some parts of South Bay of Bengal and Nicobar islands.
According to the Met department, conditions are favourable for further advance of Southwest Monsoon into some more parts of South Bay of Bengal, North Andaman Sea and Andaman Islands till May 20.
