PUNE: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) wants financial assistance from the State Government to restore and repair Ambil Odha, which was damaged during the flash floods in September 2019. According to the civic body, the estimated cost of the project is Rs 281 crore. The issue will be raised on Friday in a meeting with Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar.

PMC aims to improve the safety of residents along the nala. It also plans to increase the water carrying capacity of the nala. The flood-like situation in September last year badly damaged the properties near Ambil Odha.

PMC City Engineer Prashant Waghmare said, “We have written to the government to provide funds for Ambil Odha work. The PMC has allocated Rs 70 crore for the restoration work.”

As per the survey carried out by the Drainage Department, 3,320 metre-long retaining wall along the nala had collapsed. The civic body has constructed 2,813 metres of the retaining wall. Along with the construction of the retaining wall, there is a huge network of drainage lines to be laid. The wall was washed away in the flash floods in the areas of Dandekar Vasahat, Sane Guruji Vasahat, Mitra Mandal Chowk, Jay Shanker Lane, Taware Colony, Aranyeshwar Trust, Treasure Park, Padmaja Society, etc.

Works that are to be carried out under this project include deepening of the channel of this nala, cleaning of the stream etc. It will also include the construction of retaining wall along the nala.
