The announcement was made at the inauguration of Flower Show 2026 at Empress Garden, held on Friday. Commissioner Kumar said the police force would actively contribute to environmental conservation, transforming the “khaki force” into a green force committed to sustainability.

He noted that protecting nature is the need of the hour and that urban green spaces play a crucial role in maintaining environmental balance. Emphasising collective responsibility, he said every police officer would take part in making police stations environmentally friendly.

During the event, a tribute was paid to noted environmentalist Madhav Gadgil. Several dignitaries, including members of the exhibition committee and senior police officials, were present at the inauguration.

The flower exhibition has become a major attraction for citizens due to its artistic presentation. Displays include Japanese ikebana arrangements, a wide variety of bonsai trees, and creative floral designs that offer visitors a unique experience of natural beauty.

Nursery owners from Pune, Kolhapur, Sangli, Nashik, and other states have participated, presenting rare and attractive plants. The exhibition also features competitions related to roses, fruits and vegetables, and decorative pots, drawing special interest from gardening enthusiasts.

The event received an enthusiastic response on the first day itself. The Flower Show will remain open to the public until 27 January, and organisers have appealed to citizens to visit and support this green initiative.
