Residents say that for the past seven to eight days, the tap water has been visibly murky and mixed with silt. The water is not just unfit for drinking but also unsafe for daily use such as bathing or washing. Many households have reported yellowish or decaying-smelling water, and thick sediment layers forming in water storage tanks.

The presence of silt, discoloration, and visible impurities in the water is a major concern. This situation is especially critical during the monsoon, as unclean water can lead to the spread of diseases such as dengue, typhoid, cholera, and gastroenteritis. There is a pressing need for prompt action from the Pune Municipal Corporation’s water purification and sanitation departments.

“We are receiving dirty water in Maharshinagar. As a precaution, we are using traditional methods like adding alum, mediclor drops, boiling, and filtering the water at home. The administration must ensure clean and disinfected water is supplied to our homes.”
Rajesh Belhekar, Resident, Maharshinagar
“We will take the necessary information regarding the contaminated water supply and initiate action. Instructions have been given to the staff to carry out repairs. The issue will be resolved to prevent further inconvenience to residents.”
Nalini Suryawanshi, Assistant Commissioner, Bibwewadi Regional Office
