COVID-19 care: Pune starts work on vaccine distribution; doctors, nurses to get antidote first

Pune: The Pune district administration on Thursday stated that it has begun arrangements to distribute vaccine for the novel coronavirus once it becomes available and frontline warriors will get priority in receiving the same. The distribution will be done under NEGCAV (National Expert Group on Vaccine Administration for Covid-19) programme.

As per the programme, frontline workers, including doctors, nurses, lab technicians, ward boys, administrative staff, ambulance drivers will be given the vaccine on priority once it is available. PTI quoted, Pune District Collector Dr Rajesh Deshmukh, as saying, "There are around 1.10 lakh frontline workers in Pune district and the process of creating their database has started.”

Applicable information is being uploaded on COVID-19 Vaccination Beneficiary Management System, he informed. Pharmacists, physiotherapist, radiographers, scientists, researchers, sanitation workers, among others, too, will also the antidote on priority, Deshmukh said.

FOLLOWING WILL GET THE VACCINE ON PRIORITY

· Doctors, nurses, health workers

· Medical students, nursing and paramedical employees

· Researchers and employees

· Ambulance drivers and workers

· Anganwadi Sevika, Asha workers

Meanwhile, Pune reported 228 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, taking its tally to 1,62,647. According to the health officials, the death total went to 4,309 with 16 new deaths on Thursday. On the other side, a total of 356 patients were discharged taking the total number of recoveries to 1,52,841.
