COVID-19 fatality rate dips in Pune; recovery rate up

Pune now also has a sliver of good news in its fight against the COVID-19. The recovery rate among patients in the district has crossed 96 per cent

Pune: According to health officials the case death rate graph has been witnessing a dip since the past few months in Pune. The district which once saw the death rate of 11 per cent currently stands at 2 per cent.

After battling the novel coronavirus, Puneties can heave a sigh of relief as the district is reporting very few cases of COVID-19 from past few days.

Health officials attributed the rise in recoveries in Pune district to elaborate steps initiated to detect symptomatic patients at an early stage. Pune now also has a sliver of good news in its fight against the COVID-19. The recovery rate among patients in the district has crossed 96 per cent.

In a bid to ensure enough beds for patients, the civic body had set up a 1,114-bed jumbo facility on the in Shivajinagar and Baner. The health administration also permitted patients with no symptoms or mild symptoms to be in-home isolation. The health department in the district also took steps to identify co-morbid patients, who were in the high-risk category and were much more susceptible to the virus.

The first death due to the contagion in Pune was reported on March 30. Till April 11, the death rate climbed up to 11.4 per cent. During June-August last year, the death rate was continuously rising. However, it came down gradually and currently stands at 2 per cent. Pune city on Saturday reported zero death amid COVID-19. The city reported zero death after 11 months since the beginning of the infection.

Meanwhile, Dr Pradeep Awate, State Surveillance Officer, said, “The COVID-19 infection is not completely vanished. It will remain as a virus. It is observed that there are new strains found of this virus in England, Brazil, thus one must stay alert and follow all COVID-19 protocols.”

CURRENT SITUATION IN MAHARASHTRA

  • Total COVID cases: 20,41,398

  • Patients receiving treatment: 34,934

  • Deaths due to COVID-19: 51,280
