COVID-19: With no containment zones in city, Pune heaves sigh of relief

Pune: One of the epicentres for novel coronavirus, Pune is witnessing a continuous decline in new cases from the past few days. With cases of coronavirus further going down, PMC (Pune Municipal Corporation) has continued their decision of not declaring any area as a containment zone. The city will not have any containment zone till February 28.

PMC Commissioner Vikram Kumar said that the decision to have no containment zones will be extended till the month-end. The civic body earlier had made clear that if any particular area, society reports COVID-19 case, then it would be declared as a micro-containment zone. During the different phases of the outbreak in 2020, the PMC had declared revised the list of containment zones after reviewing the COVID-19 situation in the city.

Pune city in June was one of the worst cities badly hit due to COVID-19 now is returning to normalcy. With many relaxations and lockdown rule lifted, Pune seems to heave a sigh of relief. Various activities in the city such as restaurants, shops, sports activities, gardens are allowed to resume services.

Meanwhile, 102 new COVID-19 cases were reported in Pune city (PMC region) on Tuesday while two people lost their lives amid the novel virus. On the positive front, 236 people were discharged from the various hospitals of the city.

With this, the number of recovered patients has crossed 1,79,450 while 1,86,024 people are tested positive for COVID-19.
