Death toll touches 6 in Lonavla accident

Pune: One more person in the Lonavla accident, which took place on Saturday night, succumbed to his injuries on Sunday, taking the total death toll to six. Around seven persons, including six women, were travelling in a car when it collided with a tempo in front of the Police Training School (PTS) in Khandala on the old Mumbai-Pune Highway on Saturday night at around 9 pm. While five persons were killed on the spot, the sixth person died while under treatment at a hospital on Sunday. The seventh person is under treatment and in a critical condition.

The seven persons were employed in a hotel in Lonavla and the hotel’s official drop facility was taking the women to their homes when the accident took place. The deceased have been identified as Rima Bajala (22), who succumbed on Sunday, Puja Gaikwad (23), Trishala Sagdam (29), Savita Rai(23), Sovit Rai (29) and Gulab Memon (30).

Three persons, who were present in the tempo, were also injured. Lonavla police are further investigating the case.
