Dist admin, NGOs launch material collection drives

PUNE: The district administration and volunteers of NGOs have started relief operations to help people in flood-affected areas following incessant rains in the State, especially cities and villages in western Maharashtra, including Kolhapur and Sangli.

Citizens can donate packed food including biscuits, noodles, sugar, salt, rice, oil, etc. Other essential items being collected at these centres include medicines for cold and fever, sanitary pads, health drinks and ORS. Citizens can also donate toothpaste, clothes, blankets, bedsheets, candles, mosquito repellent, stationery, etc.

The district collector started a collection drive of relief materials required at the relief camps.

SWaCH collected relief material for flood-affected slum dwellers in the city, who have been sheltered in municipal schools. For more details: contact 9765999500/ 7066032972.

Under the guidance of MP Girish Bapat, Pune-based Catalyst Foundation initiated a collection drive for Sangli. The collection centres are corporators’ offices. For details contact Catalyst Foundation on 020-25665694.

Pune Jagriti Group and Movement Of Positivity will hold a collection drive for Sangli-Kolhapur flood relief from 7 am to 5 pm on Sunday (August 11) at the main gate of the Fergusson College. 

Pune Womania, a network of 12,000 women from Pune, is collecting material for flood-affected areas of Kolhapur. They have seven volunteers  to collect relief material in Vadgaon Sheri, Hadapsar, Sangvi, Kothrud, Rajaram Bridge, Bharati Vidyapeeth, Dhankawadi and Nanded City. For details contact: 8983313499.
