DJ Noise in Silence Zone Sparks Legal Action Threat in Pune

Pune: Ambedkar Jayanti committee warns of contempt plea in Bombay High Court over alleged police inaction near Sassoon Hospital

Pune, 15 April 2026: Amid celebrations of B. R. Ambedkar Jayanti, a controversy has surfaced in Pune after loud DJ music was reportedly played in a designated silence zone near Sassoon Hospital.

The incident has raised serious concerns, especially as the hospital area is meant to remain noise-free for the safety and recovery of patients.

Notably, the Ambedkar Jayanti Central Committee had earlier taken a constructive decision to avoid DJs during the celebrations. However, despite this, high-decibel sound systems were allegedly used in the vicinity, disturbing the sensitive hospital environment.

Rahul Dambale, president of the committee, claimed that noise levels reached nearly 124 decibels. He said multiple written complaints were submitted to the police over three days, but no preventive action was taken. He alleged that this negligence directly put patients’ lives at risk.

Dambale also pointed out that the Supreme Court has laid down clear rules regarding noise pollution, especially in silence zones like hospitals. He stated that these rules were openly violated, yet authorities failed to act.

The committee has now decided to escalate the matter legally. Dambale said they will soon approach the Bombay High Court with evidence and copies of complaints, seeking action against the administration through a contempt petition.
