Pune: Dr Aditya Kelkar, Director of National Institute of Ophthalmology (NIO) Super Speciality Eye Institute, has been conferred the ‘Honor Award’ by the prestigious ‘American Society of Retina Surgeons’ (ASRS). This prestigious award has been conferred to Dr Kelkar for his contribution to scientific research in the field of ‘Vitreoretinal Surgery’. Dr Kelkar is the first ophthalmologist from Pune city to receive this recognition.
The vitreoretinal surgery includes a group of procedures performed in the eye’s deep interior with lasers or conventional surgical instruments. For the past four years in a row, Dr Kelkar has been invited to present his scientific papers and videos demonstrating surgical procedures at the annual conference of the ‘American Society of Retina Surgeons. Dr Aditya Kelkar has also been the president of Poona Ophthalmological Society (POS) in the year 2017-18.
Dr Kelkar said, “I am thankful to the American Society of Retina Specialists for this recognition. I also thank my friend Dr Aniruddha Maiti for constant motivation. Also, the credit goes to the NIO team for their contribution and especially Dr Aanchal Agarwal and Dr Swayambhu Ghosh for their unwavering support.”
The American Society of Retina Specialists presents this award to individuals who have made significant contributions to the advancement of vitreoretinal surgery, treatment, research, surgical instrumentation, and patient care. The award is made at the discretion of the ASRS Awards Committee. The committee considers both the significance of the contributions as well as the individual’s foresight, dedication and leadership in the field of retina.
