Eight Killed, Four Injured in Horrific Collision on Jejuri-Morgaon Road in Pune

Pune, 18 June 2025: A tragic road accident on the Jejuri-Morgaon Road in Pune district claimed eight lives and left four others injured on Wednesday evening. The incident occurred around 6:45 PM near Shriram Dhaba, opposite the Kirloskar Company, under the jurisdiction of Jejuri Police Station.

According to police officials, Somnath Ramchandra Vayase, the owner of Shriram Dhaba, was unloading a refrigerator from a delivery pickup truck parked in front of his eatery when a speeding Swift Dzire car rammed into the stationary vehicle from behind. The impact of the collision was so severe that seven men and one woman died on the spot.

Additionally, one man, one woman, and two children sustained injuries in the accident and were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Confirming the incident, Pune Rural Superintendent of Police (SP) Sandeep Singh Gill said, “Seven people died in a road accident on the Jejuri-Morgaon road in Pune district. The accident involved a sedan and a pickup truck. More details are awaited.”

Expressing grief over the tragic incident, Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled the loss of lives and wished a speedy recovery to the injured. In a post shared by the PMO India handle on X, the Prime Minister said, “Deeply saddened by the loss of lives due to a road accident on the Jejuri-Morgaon road in Pune, Maharashtra. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured recover soon.”

He also announced an ex gratia of ₹2 lakh each from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the next of kin of the deceased and ₹50,000 for those injured in the mishap.

The police have registered a case and initiated further investigation into the cause of the accident. The sudden loss of lives has cast a pall of gloom over the local community.
