Ex-BSF jawan shoots at wife, held by police

Pune: A retired Border Security Force (BSF) jawan has been arrested for allegedly firing from a revolver at his wife for allegedly stopping him from drinking liquor on Friday.

The accused has been identified as Balaji Rangnath Chathe (43), a resident of Tadiwala Road. His son, Yogesh (24), has lodged an FIR against him with Bund Garden police station. 

According to police, the incident took place around 1 pm. Yogesh told police that his father got angry after his mother Kadubai prevented him from drinking liquor. He had come home drunk and wanted to drink more. Chathe fired at Kadubai but the bullet missed her. 

After the incident came to light senior police officials including DCP (zone 2) Bachan Singh, senior police inspector MM Mujawar reached the spot for investigation. 

The accused has claimed that he has valid firearm license and police are verifying his claims.
